I got the sense that she is trying to defense her own idea or principle (or choice). However, I think the way she defenses that idea is somehow too much. In this short stories collection, I think, she is trying to change the attitude of Indonesian people who always think that choosing not to get married is something weird. Yet, the ideas here are not too interesting and fresh. The language is still as brave as her previous two novels. She refuses to marry, and this is the main theme that Ayu brought in this book: marriage, and her principal of remain unmarried in life (she broke it somehow, because eventually, the writer herself is married. Unexpectedly.) This is Title - I think the translation which has closest meaning in English would be "The Single Sucker", although I wish it would be "The Single Bitch" instead, as the main character in the book portrayed a role as a badass, unmarried "bitch" who doesn't conform to norms.
